The UAE has recently introduced several significant updates to its visa system, aimed at making the process more streamlined and beneficial for visitors and residents alike. Here’s a summary of the key updates:

  1. Entry Permit and Visa Extensions: UAE entry permits can now be extended for up to 90 days depending on various factors, including the purpose of the visit. This extension is available through the ICP smart service system, and the fees vary based on the type of permit and the duration of the extension. For instance, a 30-day extension for GCC residents costs AED 260, while healthcare permits can be extended up to 90 days for AED 510 (Wego Travel Blog).
  2. Visit Visa Rules: The UAE has implemented a one-time 30-day extension for 90-day visit visas, allowing for a total extension of up to 90 days. Additionally, all types of tourist visas can now be extended for an extra 30 days from within the country for a fee of AED 600 (USD 163). Importantly, visa holders no longer need to leave and re-enter the country to extend their visas (Wego Travel Blog).
  3. Golden Visa: The UAE has expanded the categories and simplified the eligibility criteria for the Golden Visa, extending its validity to 10 years for all types. This visa now covers a broader array of professionals and talents, including scientists, skilled professionals, exceptional talents in various fields, real estate investors, entrepreneurs, students, humanitarian pioneers, doctors, nurses, cultural professionals, and executive directors. The Golden Visa allows holders to sponsor family members and offers a grace period of 6 months for visa expiry or cancellation (Wego Travel Blog).
  4. Unified Visa and Emirates ID Applications: In a move to simplify the residency process, the UAE government has unified the applications for residency permits and Emirates IDs. The Emirates ID now serves as the visa stamp on residents’ passports, eliminating the need for passport stamping. Applicants can complete this process through the official ICP website or the mobile app UAEICP (Wego Travel Blog).
  5. New Visas and System Overhauls: The tourist visas have been extended to be valid for 60 days, an increase from the previous 30 days. A new five-year, multi-entry tourist visa has also been introduced, allowing visitors to stay for up to 90 continuous days with the limitation of not exceeding 180 days in a year. The UAE has also introduced a five-year green visa, allowing holders to sponsor themselves without the need for company sponsorship (What’s On).
